SCP-055 was formed in 2020, born out of a creative urgency following lockdown. While their early days centered around improvised experiments inspired by Sunn O)) and The Necks, the lineup quickly evolved its approach to place trance and rhythmic power at the core of its music.
In 2024, SCP-055 made a strong impression during Paris’s Nuit Blanche by taking over the Saint-Pierre de Montmartre church for a three-hour improvised set. This performance laid the groundwork for a brand-new sonic chapter, specifically designed for highly reverberant spaces where sound is sculpted live and adapts to the venue.
The group stands out for its radicalism, constant exploration, and the raw power of a fragmented sound. United by a fascination with visual and musical anomalies, SCP-055 asserts a singular identity, oscillating between noise-rock and pure improvisation.
After releasing the EP/cassette “Aftercrash” in 2025, the band releases its debut album, “Something lives Inside”, in November 2026 on the Juste une Trace label.

Benjamin Garson – Electric guitar, effects
Both a guitarist and sound engineer, Benjamin Garson studied at the CNSM in Paris and at ENS Louis-Lumière, where he earned a Master’s degree in sound engineering as well as prizes in classical guitar, jazz, and free improvisation, complemented by State Diplomas in both disciplines.
A versatile musician, he regularly collaborates with classical and contemporary ensembles (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Le Balcon, ONF, Cairn…), large jazz ensembles (ONJ), and the theater world (the company “À force de rêver”). As a leader or founder, he spearheads diverse projects ranging from classical to improvised music (SCP-055, La Cozna, Timelapse, L’Impolie, and his duo with Robin Antunes), while remaining a sought-after sideman (Slow Down, L’Autour, Eyes Ajar, Gary Brunton’s Spacecraft).
In the studio, he handles tracking, mixing, and mastering for around ten albums across jazz, rock, folk, and improvised music. His creations foster a dialogue between music and signal processing, placing spatialization and augmented guitar at the center of his work. Driven by a refined lyricism, a solid mastery of sonic texture, and a remarkable ease with improvisation, this prolific musician never hesitates to explore the most radical aesthetics to captivate his audience.

Hugo Van Rechem – Electric mandola, violin, effects
A classically trained composer and multi-instrumental violinist, Hugo Van Rechem builds ambitious bridges between jazz, electronic pop, and contemporary music. After graduating with a Master’s degree from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in June 2019, he quickly turned to improvised music, collaborating with the Yumi Ito Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Jazz, the Yessaï Karapetian Quintet, and the Rising Cloud Orchestra.
In parallel, he co-directs “un garage par jour,” an 18-piece grand ensemble of musicians from varied backgrounds, alongside Paco Andreo. Frequently commissioned as a composer, he writes for diverse ensembles and events, including Ensemble 2e2m, Ensemble Dérive, the trio L’Impolie, Ensemble SéRAFIN, JFC Big Band, the choir Le Madrigal, and the Into the Open festival in Berlin. In 2022, he took part in the Lucerne Festival’s Composer Seminar alongside Wolfgang Rihm and Dieter Ammann. On this occasion, the International Ensemble Modern Academy premiered his piece [5:54] (morning coffee, empty stomach, spiritual elevation) for ensemble and two touring musicians, a work performed again by Ensemble Modern at the Frankfurt Opera in December 2022. More recently, he composed the score for the collective film “Terre” for Ensemble Elisha, an interdisciplinary project supported by the *Monde Nouveau* grant.
His artistic imagination is fueled as much by essayist Pacôme Thiellement and mandolinist Chris Thile as by composers Clara Iannotta and Karlheinz Stockhausen, while drawing inspiration from the unique worlds of Philip K. Dick, Miranda July, and David Lynch.

Sami Foukani-Descamps – Double bass, effects
A French-Moroccan double bassist and improviser, Sami Foukani-Descamps draws from a rich tapestry of influences, having grown up at the crossroads of Western and Eastern musical cultures. Following a classical background, he naturally turned to jazz to fully express his musical identity. Trained in the jazz departments of the Tourcoing and Chalon-sur-Saône conservatories, he graduated from the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne-Billancourt under the guidance of Marc Buronfosse and Stéphane Kerecki.
Inspired by masters of the instrument like Barre Phillips, Bruno Chevillon, and J.J. Avenel, he has developed a singular sonic signature. He lends this identity to the bands SCP-055, Une Bande d’Errants, Nalika, and Aâma, incorporating effects and extended techniques to enrich their musical landscapes. His playing navigates between free experimentation and blends of jazz, rock, and traditional music. Always evolving, he is dedicated to stimulating and enriching the projects of the musicians around him.

Loup Godfroy – Drums, percussion
A musician rooted in field experience, drummer Loup Godfroy focuses his artistic approach on the pursuit of energy, sonic innovation, and trance. He delivers a vibrant, organic, and open playing style, guided by an aesthetic of repetition and rhythmic obsession inspired by figures such as Paul Motian, Sylvain Darrifourcq, Ramon Lopez, and Tony Buck.
His musical journey early on brought him into contact with musicians from multiple horizons, including François Gallix, Fabrizio Cassol, and Benoît Delbecq. He honed his skills under Simon Goubert, Manu Roche, Steve Arguelles, and Joe Quitzke, as well as at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse, where he also studied composition. Together, these encounters and experiences fuel his current practice of a free, improvised, and deeply committed music.
