Split Brain presents an entirely instrumental version of their metal album Écrasés par notre Héritage named Overwhelmed by our Legacy, allowing us to appreciate every musical nuance and discover the compositions from a new angle.
The album, available on all streaming platforms on February 28, was recorded with spontaneous live takes and in analog.

The idea of releasing instrumental versions came from the label. They may surprise longtime fans, intrigue new listeners, and offer a fresh perspective on the compositions. More than anything, they create new sensations and expand the imagination in a way that only instrumental music can.

Split Brain’s Overwhelmed by our Legacy presents an entirely instrumental version of their metal album Écrasés par notre Héritage, allowing us to appreciate every musical nuance and discover the compositions from a new angle.

Four months after the release of Écrasés par notre Héritage, an album where rage and introspection collide, Split Brain unveils a new facet of their work by presenting a fully instrumental version of their compositions.
By stripping the tracks of their vocal charge, this streaming edition highlights the raw power of the compositions and reveals the full richness of the band’s musical textures. “The previous album ended on a bass arpeggio that hinted at a sequel… It now opens this album, keeping the same key. The arpeggio is more refined, more varied,” explains Rémi, a member of the band. This instrumental version offers a different perspective on the tracks, allowing listeners to explore the nuances of the arrangements, with analog recordings.
Each track has its own story, often rooted in musical ideas developed over the years. “It seems we’ve already said it all” is a perfect example: “We wanted the track to build up, and after the intro, it moves into a fast verse/chorus that leaves little room to breathe, until halfway through, where everything opens up with a solid dose of groove.”
Actors of our Downfall“, on the other hand, is based on a guitar melody composed nearly ten years ago that had never found its place—until now. “Everything came together quickly, building around that foundation with syncopated, almost military riffs that transition into the chorus, which remains entirely melodic.”
The album also offers strong contrasts, with tracks like “From Anger to Hate“, which combines a martial rhythm with dissonant leads, or “Catch our Breath“, an acoustic interlude. “It’s kind of a tradition for us: a moment to breathe, to split the album into two parts, another way to listen.”
A Headlong Rush” stands out with its short and impactful format: “It’s the fastest track on the album. A solo transitions into the second part of the track, which is slower but steadily builds up.”
Another distinctive feature is a two-part concept: “That gives us ‘And then we’ll rise‘ and its evil twin, ‘Until we burn out’. The first, with a rather slow tempo, leads into a second part that reprises the same theme, hammered by blast beats, creating a clear break between the two tracks. But deep down, since we are kind-hearted beings, we chose to add a brief and unexpected waltz moment.”
The album closes with “What will they believe?“, a track designed as an engaging and energetic conclusion, with a final loop that leaves room for doubt about a true ending: “An arpeggio resonates just after—so is it really the end?” This final echo seems to invite the listener into introspection, as if the musical journey continues in a parallel dimension where answers remain elusive.
Available on all streaming platforms on February 28, Overwhelmed by our Legacy continues the intense and visceral musical journey undertaken by Split Brain. This time, without vocals, the focus shifts to the dynamics of the compositions, the finesse of the arrangements, and the chemistry between the instruments, revealing the full power and raw emotion of Split Brain.

It seems we’ve already said it all
Actors on our downfall
From anger to hate
Overwhelmed by our legacy
Catch our breath
A flight forward
And then we’ll rise…
… Until we burn out
What will they believe?
