MESSAGE FROM GARY BRUNTON :
Since 2019, I have been leading a series of original jazz projects inspired by travel and various modes of transportation. Following on from the bus with Night Bus and Second Trip, and the train with Trên Dydd and Gwawr, this time, I will take off in a Spacecraft. Let’s continue this journey together.
For my next creation, I have chosen to form a quintet bringing together musicians from the new generation, five crew members aboard my “Spacecraft”, ready to explore new musical horizons. Since the United Kingdom left the EU in 2020, I have been striving to maintain collaborations with artists from my country of birth.
The Spacecraft project embodies speed, space, and expertise. I compose specifically for each member of the group, creating forms and rhythmic patterns that stimulate their creativity in improvisation. This quintet brings together charismatic melodies, modern fusion, groove, rock, and fiery improvisations, driven by the exceptional talents of Emma Rawicz, Léa Ciechelski, Benjamin Garson, and Simon Goubert. Together, we will push the boundaries of jazz and deliver a unique musical experience.
The funds collected will be used to produce the recordings in the best conditions to make the album; the music will be available in streaming form, and on CD. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING !

The funds collected will be used to produce the recordings in the best conditions to make an album; the music will be attainable in streaming form, and on CD.
Although SPACECRAFT will be available for streaming because it’s convenient for everyone, it’s still nice to offer or own a beautiful object rather than just listening to highly compressed audio.
For those who are not yet familiar with British double bassist and composer Gary Brunton, you can find some glimpses of his life here. He has played with Bojan Z, Michel Graillier, Julien Loureau, François Jeanneau, and many other artists. He also leads the large ensemble Pee Bee, is a fan of David Bowie, and enjoys playing works by Stravinsky and Shostakovich. For those who know him, you already know that he is a charming, cheerful, delicate person who is, of course, passionate about music. As a result, his works reflect his personality.
With SPACECRAFT, Gary Brunton takes us on a journey once again: this time, to outer space. He brings together a new synthesis of his influences, and he greatly values his collaborators and listeners. When he composes, Gary Brunton always considers the spirit and playing style of the musicians involved in his projects. He also has the ability to make sophisticated, improvisation-tinged jazz accessible to a wider audience. Everything becomes simpler and more evident because Gary Brunton is a composer who always listens.
The Story of the Quintet Assembled for SPACECRAFT
In the summer of 2023, Gary Brunton had the honor of playing his compositions with a British quartet at the Brecon Jazz Festival in Wales. He shared the stage with the talented saxophonist Emma Rawicz, a rising star on the London scene and a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician competition.
As a member of the Grands Formats federation for jazz and improvised music ensembles, he met saxophonist and flutist Léa Ciechelski, a laureate of the “Jazz Migration” program.
Impressed by the talent of a multidisciplinary artist, he then invited Benjamin Garson to join the project. Garson studied classical guitar and jazz at the CNSM in Paris, also exploring rock and contemporary improvisation. He has performed with the ONJ Youth Orchestra under Franck Tortiller and the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
Following the success of his trio *Night Bus*, Gary Brunton wanted to continue his collaboration with drummer Simon Goubert. His unique playing, combining power and finesse, is a source of inspiration for any double bassist. He has recorded over eighty albums, including nine as a leader, and has performed with legends such as Martial Solal, Dave Liebman, Steve Grossman, and Magma. He was also the first drummer to receive the Django Reinhardt Prize from the Académie du Jazz.
