The video 83 BIS

Gary Brunton composed 83 BIS in memory of the CIM, the jazz school located at 83 bis Rue Doudeauville in the 18th district of Paris.
At the end of the 80s, Gary Brunton studied there. During the course, he met Pierre Christophe, Daniel Garcia Bruno and Bojan Zulfikarpasic. It was during this period that he settled permanently in France.

The founder and director of the Centre d’Informations Musicales, Alain Guerrini, encourages him and takes pleasure in organizing jams-session. It is also at the CIM that Gary Brunton meets Michel Grailler, Dave Liebman and Simon Goubert. Many talented professional musicians have passed through this school founded in the mid-1970s.
We found a
jam-session filmed by Alain Guerrini in 1989. We find Dave Liebman (soprano saxophone), Bojan Zulfikarpasic (piano), Gary Brunton (double bass), Daniel Garcia Bruno (drums) and Michel Grailler (he remplaces Bojan Z).

30 years later, Gary Brunton, Bojan Z and Simon Goubert record their first album together.

THE VIDEO JESSE JAMES

A STOP-MOTION video for « JESSE JAMES » (Barry Melton, Robert Hunter) from the album LIVE AT LA DAME DE CANTON.

It was 1969 at the Woodstock Festival, the voice of Barry “The Fish” Melton filled the air over an excited crowd. At the same time Jay Ryan was in the streets of Chicago in the marching band.

It is no coincidence that LIVE AT LA DAME DE CANTON starts off with “Jesse James”, one of the songs co-written by Barry “The Fish” Melton and Bob Hunter. Robert Hunter, lyricist and member of the Grateful Dead, had passed away 3 days before the recording. It’s with these memories and some nostalgia that Barry got on stage accompanied by Jay and The Cooks. He pays homage to his friend and you can hear it in his voice.

THE VIDEO UNITED WE STAND

A stop motion video for a PEE BEE‘s hymn. The song composed by Gary Brunton with lyrics by Heather Joyce is on the album OR NOT TO BE. The energy and sensuality are surprising. Pee Bee plays and sings without worrying about stylistic boundaries. In fact, the sizzling hot band draws on jazz, rock, pop or traditional music to give it to heart and share happiness. Pee Bee cross the English Channel revisiting England with «OR not to BE». The nod to the Buzzcocks or to David Bowie, on «United We Stand», highlights the openness of the «big band» (12 artists).

«… Pack up your troubles
In an old kit bag
Pee Bee is marching
Keep calm and Pee Bee
In your hearts
You’ll never walk alone…»

Ligne 13, a «cartoon-song»

Line 13 of the Parisian subway system (“metro”) crosses the capital from North to South, from top to bottom and back up, from suburb to suburb through Paris.

Hauling more than 125 million passengers a year, it’s one of the most fully loaded lines in Europe, in short, saturated. Therein lies its dreadful reputation.

Thanks to Jay and The Cooks, now it’s got its own song! (album I’M HUNGRY)

LIGNE 13 (Jay Ryan, Marie-France Floury, Éditions AMOC)

Kamel a franchi les montagnes
Kamel a traversé la mer
Mais il a vraiment connu la pire des galères
Sur la ligne 13, même si c’était pas la grève
Sur la ligne 13, il a eu comme un malaise !
Marie Louise a soixante-quinze ans

A legend of Woodstock in Paris

During the Summer of Love, Barry « The Fish » Melton celebrated his 20th birthday in June 1967. A few days later, he and his band Country Joe and The Fish were rocketed onto the world stage at the Monterey Pop Festival with such luminaries as the Jefferson Airplane, the Mamas and Papas, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, Simon and Garfunkel, the Who, Jimi Hendrix… Barry also appeared in the movie bearing the same name: « Woodstock ». At the same time Jay Ryan was playing with a « marching band » in Chicago.

In the 1980’s, Barry « The Fish » Melton put together San Francisco’s historic supergroup, « The Dinosaurs », featuring John Cipollina (Quicksilver Messenger Service), Spencer Dryden (Jefferson Airplane), Peter Albin (Big Brother and the Holding Company) and Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead songwriter). Other members of the band later included Merl Saunders (Saunders- Jerry Garcia Band) and Papa John Creach (Hot Tuna).
At the same time Jay Ryan was playing with Yohan Asherton, Les Froggies, Jacno, Paris Slim, or on stage with Elliot Murphy, The Transcontinental Cowboys…

50 years after Woodstock, Barry « The Fish » Melton with Jay and The Cooks are playing together, to celebrate the festival with an authentic Rock, Blues and Folk show.
