THE BAGDAD RODEO MILITARY SYMPHONY

Whilst the roar of bombs shows no sign of abating, Bagdad Rodeo today moves away from its usual satire to deliver a piece of great depth. With ‘Symphonie Militaire’, taken from PART.2 of their epic project QUATRE, the band has produced a serious, stripped-back and terribly topical work. Behind the rebellious rock energy, the band presents a humanist track that strips war of its glorious trappings, leaving only its tragic nakedness.

A voice for those forgotten on the front line
Far from warmongering slogans, ‘Symphonie Militaire’ gives a voice to those who are never heard: the sacrificed. The track opens with a sensitive introduction, driven by the chemistry between the two co-founders, Christobal Sanchez Del Rodeo and MGR Delatourette. The band delivers a melancholic grunge composition in which the tension builds like a storm over a battlefield.

A poem in the tradition of Boris Vian
The lyrics, co-written by Ludovic Dufour and Christophe Sanchez, evoke the tragic absurdity of combat and the shattered lives of soldiers in uniform.
Bagdad Rodeo revives the tradition of poignant, socially conscious songwriting, reminiscent of Boris Vian’s writing. The lyrics highlight the stark contrast between the ‘old military fanatics’ and the young people sent to their deaths, between medals of honour and the reality of a body wrapped in a sheet.
The narrator is no cinema hero; he is a man under duress. Here, Bagdad Rodeo deconstructs the myth of the idealised soldier to reveal the reality of conscription or the social necessity that drives men to the front. The word ‘forced’ refers to the loss of free will: war is not a choice, it is an inescapable fate.

‘Why is the world made of stone / Only to end up as rubble?’

This metaphor highlights the futility of human constructions (borders, monuments, empires). Stone evokes the rigidity and inflexibility of dogmas and hearts. Rubble, for its part, symbolises the inevitable outcome of any warlike endeavour: total destruction. It is a cyclical and disillusioned vision in which humanity stubbornly persists in building what it will ultimately reduce to dust.

A music video that acts as a mirror
The music video, unveiled on 27 April, illustrates this inevitable downfall. It captures the contrast between the stench of death on the battlefield and the memory of a life flashing before one’s eyes. It is clearly an invitation to reflect, a necessary pause amidst the media frenzy to observe, alongside Bagdad Rodeo, the ruins of our humanity.

‘I didn’t choose this war, nor the stench of hatred that hangs in the air…’
‘Symphonie Militaire’ is more than just a song; it is a lucid observation that leaves us pensive, long after the final note has faded away.
‘Symphonie Militaire’ is not really a partisan anthem; it is, rather, a cry of empathy. Here, Bagdad Rodeo have created a song that refuses to celebrate victory, choosing instead to mourn the defeated on all sides. The choice of grunge to convey these words is no coincidence: it is a genre which, by its very nature, expresses raw pain and a rejection of established structures.
The band pulls off the remarkable feat of being both poetic in form and brutally realistic in substance.

LE DERNIER COMMUNISTE ON ALL SCREENS

“Le Dernier Communiste” by Bagdad Rodeo is like a nightmare filled with riffs, nods, and candid lyrics. In this track from “QUATRE – L’ALBUM SANS FIN – PART.1“, everything hits hard, including hammer blows to our consciences, all with the raw, provocative energy that defines the band. Here is a caricature of the abandonment of Marxist ideals and class struggle, set in a quirky, festive, and colorful atmosphere. A nearly premonitory track, written by Christobal Sanchez Del Rodéo and MGR Delatourette, just before the last French legislative elections in the summer of 2024. An independent, alternative rock song that now reflects a trend for some to veer right, even dangerously close to the edge.

The video clip, directed by Bertrand Boissimon, presents a unique and ironic vision of today’s society. Through a character, “le dernier communiste,” Bagdad Rodeo questions power dynamics and the role of ideologies in an era dominated by money. True to its offbeat style, the band also includes humorous elements, such as the presence of Vladimir Spoutnik in his own role. Vladimir Spoutnik is a colorful character: “50% crooner, 50% DJ, 50% comedian, and 100% mustachioed,” he never ceases to surprise with his versatility and unique charisma. A consummate performer, reporter, or true Master of Ceremonies, Vladimir Spoutnik captivates wherever he is and whatever he does. His magnetic presence and inimitable style make him an essential figure in the underground scene and the ideal feature for this new Bagdad Rodeo video. He is the last communist, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, and he feels alone.

To add a twist, the extras in the video are none other than the guests from MGR Delatourette’s recent wedding, naturally exploited on that day for budget reasons—a clever touch of self-deprecation that echoes the themes in the song. A playful nod to the reality of independent production, always marked by resourcefulness and creativity.

With its sharp guitars and biting lyrics, “Le Dernier Communiste” invites reflection on today’s world while unleashing an irresistible musical energy. In a rebellious spirit, Bagdad Rodeo challenges conventions with a track that combines political engagement and social critique, all without taking itself too seriously.

«TWO» BY BAGDAD RODEO FINALLY REPUBLISHED

Purist and conformist ears, go your way because it is TWO of BAGDAD RODEO: a real nugget! The album originally released in 2012, sold out for more than 10 years, is finally available again.

The comic tone and rejection of political correctness are omnipresent. The lyrics are little jewels of acid humor inspired by reality. There are on this rock album compositions and atmospheres very different but each time very accurate and impeccably made.

Among the themes addressed by the group, the gender relations stand out particularly, especially in the provocative title «J’aime pas les Filles». In this song, the ladies are depicted with a biting irony: “always eat light, make a mess of their weight when summer approaches” and “only think about getting married like all their girlfriends.» Men, for their part, are not spared: “atrophic brain and a dick to decide”, “a pair of balls well attached and a left hand to scratch them…”. The great Bagdad Rodeo!

Throughout the album, Bagdad Rodeo also addresses various themes such as the life of a couple (“Le Couple Idéal”), religion (“Mon Pote Jésus”) and the harms of smoking (“L’Homme Avec La Cigarette”). Every piece, whether it’s dancing on the edge of dance (“Quand Je Serai Mort”), or flirting with metal (“Bagdad Rodeo”, “Le Nouveau Millénaire”, “La Balayette”), pop, rockabilly, country or punk, Reveals an impressive musical richness and diversity. The guitar and ravaging riffs dominate, accompanied by many bruitages, interventions of piano, brass and choirs.

The realization of «DEUX» was entrusted to François Maigret (guitarist of No One Is Innocent), guaranteeing a production that sublimates the irreverent and energetic spirit of the group. “DEUX” from Baghdad Rodeo is available since October 11. (Re) Immerse yourself in this uncompromising rock universe and let yourself be carried away by powerful melodies and incisive and timeless lyrics.

little gift for you :

FOCUS ON «LE DIVAN»

As its name suggests, “LE DIVAN” (the couch) is a title of the French rock band Bagdad Rodeo. It could be in rotation everywhere and incorporated into many playlists as of June 14, 2024. This title with soft and catchy melodies, offers a biting reflection on the contradictions and challenges of everyday life. That’s a good thing!

“A mercantile happiness, a rent, debts, a semblance of freedom controlled by finance”. Through these first lines, Bagdad Rodeo criticizes materialism and the illusion of freedom in our society. And for once, everything seems really serious.

“Work, country, holiday”: a mantra repeated at will to keep people in a state of consensual bondage, preventing them from seeing beyond the barriers set by the system. However, even in the rare moments of leisure granted, the illusion of happiness in family is only a smokescreen intended to hide the emptiness of our existences. “Formula 1 on Sunday” becomes an opium for the masses, a welcome distraction in a bleak and often meaningless daily life.

The chorus asks essential questions: “We are here and what are we waiting for, what are we doing for a different world?” By questioning our collective passivity and our desire for change, Bagdad Rodeo encourages us to reflect on our actions and our role in society.

With his words, MGR Delatourette, summarizes this antinomy in a poignant way: “Comfort, overconsumption, a semblance of belonging to a social class, success. A well-established scheme that contradicts the logic that obsesses us, for a better and sustainable world. We all want change, a different future, but we always stay, ass on the couch…”

“THE DIVAN” is a metaphor for our immobility in the face of the train. Routine takes us away from our deepest aspirations.

And what about this addiction to alcohol and drugs, these crutches on which we rely to bear the crushing weight of our meaningless lives? “A little alcohol to hold, to pass the time”, but basically, what do we have to hope for from a society that keeps us under control?

Here we are, contemplating the distressing picture of our lives stifled by boredom and conformity, wondering what we really expect. “To dream of a different future”, of a world where freedom is not an empty word, where happiness is not conditioned by our ability to consume and obey the dictates of capitalism.

Despite our aspirations and dreams, we remain there, motionless, glued to a couch, unable to get up and challenge the system.

“LE DIVAN” is a protest rock song that will also appeal to fans of Souchon, Devo, B-52’s and Rita Mitsouko.

“LE DIVAN”, title extracted from «QUATRE – PART.1 – L’Album sans Fin» is the mirror of an era. The composition also reveals a new side of Bagdad Rodeo, more melancholic, almost minimalist, but definitely committed. This is another way to take the pill, gently, more gently than usual.

CO2NARD, THE MAGIC WORDS

Bagdad Rodeo, the band whose sarcasm is as sharp as guitar riffs, unveils its new single and clip, “Co2nard”, from “Quatre – L’album sans fin – Part 1”.

In a world where the oversized ego and the race for likes reign supreme, Bagdad Rodeo delivers a musical uppercut with “Co2nard”. The lyrics, as subtle as a blow of mass in a porcelain of China, explore with delight the Kafkaesque universe of the influencers and their obsession for emptiness, nothingness.

«I spend my day doing selfies» sings Bishop Delatourette, offering a scathing observation on the life of social media stars, whose depth is equivalent to that of a puddle after a shower.

Targeting digital narcissists, Bagdad Rodeo strips the superficial layers of entertainment to reveal the cynicism behind it. “Selling my mother for knacki-shaped lips,” they say with humour as black as coal.

In this new trend where the good meets the bad, even the very bad, Bagdad Rodeo refuses to remain passive. Co2nard” is a call to action, a formula for all those who refuse to see society sink into darkness, greed and egocentrism.

Bagdad Rodeo, known for his outspokenness and commitment, does not hesitate to denounce this drift in “Co2nard” and thus invites the public to join them in their fight against this new form of social parasitism, where real talent is relegated to the background in favor of manipulation and superficiality.

Bagdad Rodeo still does not make lace, and “Co2nard” is the ultimate proof. Prepare to laugh, reflect, and question your own selfies.

REVOLUTION VENDETTA ON VIDEO

BAGDAD RODEO presents the video “Revolution Vendetta”. A hymn to resistance and freedom. This incisive title is the first extract of the album “Quatre – L’Album sans Fin – Part 1”.

“Revolution Vendetta” stands out for its bold words and rebellious energy, bearing the characteristic imprint of BAGDAD RODEO. The words of Bishop Delatourette and Christobal Sanchez del Rodéo testify to an unwavering determination to remain true to oneself despite external pressures.

“Still alive, still there,
Not ready to walk,
Not ready to shut my mouth in front of you
I won’t bend, I won’t change
The rodeo will win
Revolution vendetta, fist raised in front of you”

The video was directed by Bertrand Boissimon, in the cold, perhaps in the east. The sobriety of the images contrasts with the energy of the title. The quality of the photography is undeniable. Simple, raw, authentic: real rock that spoils. With words like “I’m not dead, you won’t get me”, BAGDAD RODEO refuses to submit to the norm and continues to claim its identity.

“Revolution Vendetta” is a direct response to the current challenges of society, a call for perseverance and the defense of fundamental rights. The lyrics embody the vision of BAGDAD RODEO, a militant group that takes you on a rodeo of social satire and caustic humor.

“The fight is more relevant than ever, and BAGDAD RODEO will always be ready to take part. The exile is over…” says the group.
